Producers vs. Consumers & Why Sales Is The Most Important Thing You Will Ever Learn
Ahead of specific actionable guides on SaaS Sales a bit of a reason why.
Producer vs. Consumer
There are endless ways that each and every person alive is an individual, there are no two alike but we do all have similarities. It is these similarities we use to create our maps of the world, our understanding of people. Without generalising, the world would be far too complex to understand and we would all be trapped in endless paralysis by analysis.
One way I can see a split in the world is the dichotomy of the producer and the consumer.
A consumer is someone who takes in the endless amount of content in the world created by other people to fuel the need for dopamine in the brain. Buying products, watching tv, movies, youtube, etc.
A producer creates these things, their dopamine is found in the journey of having an idea, figuring out how to bring it into reality, then taking action on this plan.
Both of these paths tell our body that we are doing good things and build habits that continue the cycle. The problem is as a consumer you are not actually taking any actions that improve your life, all of the chemical reward with nothing tangible. As a producer your life begins to get better as you put more and more into the world.
Staying a consumer is a guaranteed way to ensure you have an unhappy and unsuccessful life. You will not be fulfilled.
Be a creator and life is good.
Sales
But creation is not enough, how many artists have died poor? Inventors who’s invention could have helped millions failed? Too many times a producer has made something that would bring value to others, but has not had the skills or vision to take the creation to the public and make it a success. This is where sales comes in.
Sales is in everything we do. We sell who we are through personality, we sell ourselves as partners through our actions, we sell ourselves good employees through hard work. We sell lies and our sincerity. And yes, we sell products and services.
Sales allows us to take the vision and creation that we are so passionate about and share that vision with others.
To be successful in life you will also need to hone your sales skills. If you can learn how to share the vision you have with others and convince them to buy in, then money is never going to be an issue, having a community around you will never be an issue, and you’ll avoid a lot of heartaches in life.
So be a salesman and life is good.
